The full performance, Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Generalist is assigned to the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This position serves as an advance technician for outpatient care settings such as; primary care, mental health, and specialty clinics. As an ICT Generalist the incumbent may serve in a medical center, community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC), mobile medical unit or may have virtual/remote assignments. Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) - Specialized Experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Assisting in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an outpatient setting. Performing treatments and interventions (i.e. Foley coude' catheter insertions, Cryotherapy, incision & drainage, and suturing). Assisting licensed staff with preparing patients for medical evaluation. Performing observation-based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. Assisting with patient exams and screening utilizing technology such as telehealth peripherals. OR Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-07 level. Applicants must have successfully completed 1 full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position such as phlebotomy, nursing, or other related subjects. OR Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-07 level. Applicants must have equivalent combinations of creditable specialized experience and education as described above to meet the total experience requirements for the position To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Administrating medication: intramuscular, oral, topical, eye drops, ear drops, intranasal, rectal suppositories, local anesthetics, nebulized medications, subcutaneous, and intradermal. Assisting licensed staff with preparing patients for medical evaluation, setting up equipment, passing instruments and providing treatment during in-person or virtual visits. Performing observation-based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. Operating specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes. Collecting specimens and preparing them for transfer to process. Performing 12-lead electrocardiograms. Providing patient education within scope of care or while providing an intervention. (Examples: post-procedural care and wound care). Assisting with the training of personnel in if appropriately trained, certified and/or qualified. Performing observation-based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. Completing approved templates and tools, such as normal result notes and follow up treatment protocols established by the agency. Performing Vital Signs and Point of Care Testing. Documenting actions, interventions, and procedures in the medical record. (Examples: Procedural notes, progress notes, screenings, photo-documentation, and secure messaging.) Assisting with patient exams and screening, utilizing technology such as telehealth peripherals. Examples: primary care physical exams (heart, eye, ear, nose, throat (EENT); gait exams, and skin exams. Recognizing life threatening situations and acting to correct these emergent situations according to established national or local protocols. The incumbent initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS) and use of automatic external defibrillator (AED) once certified and where appropriate according to American Heart Association (AHA) protocols and policies. Observes patient status and keeps licensed personnel informed of any change in condition.
