The Columbia VA Health Care System is seeking an experienced Medical Instrument Technician (Electrophysiology Cardiac Catherization/EP Clinic). The incumbent must have thorough knowledge and be fully functional in the Cardiac Electrophysiology arena including outpatient and inpatient cardiac device management, electrophysiology procedures in the cardiac EP studies, ablations, pacemaker, ICDs and Bi-V device implantations. The incumbent will scrub, circulate, monitor, and operate equipment on complex examination and treatment procedures for critically ill patients in the laboratory. The incumbent will assist the physician and team members during a variety of highly complex, potentially life threatening invasive cardiovascular procedures on stable and unstable patients throughout the lifespan continuum to include both diagnostic and interventional invasive cardiac procedures. Additionally, the incumbent must be efficient in understanding processes and procedures related to Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiac Catheterizations, Trans-esophageal Echocardiography, Cardioversion. The incumbent will provide technical assistance to the physicians during all procedures performed in the laboratory; independently monitor the progression of procedures; accurately monitor and record intravascular pressures and electrocardiography tracings; operate digital radiologic and monitoring computer systems; assist in preparation of patients prior to procedures, and care for patients during and post procedures; assists with training and mentoring other technicians, nurses, and students in the cardiac catheterization/EP laboratory and outpatient clinic setting; perform a variety of routine to complex noninvasive/invasive diagnostic studies to identify and record anomalies indicative of disease, injury or other medically significant conditions. Additionally, the incumbent must have an intimate have an extensive knowledge of vascular and coronary anatomy and physiology related to cardiovascular function and electro-cardiology. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to: Outpatient Clinics: Assembles pre-evaluation data, interprets medical record information, and conducts physical evaluation of patients in collaboration with the EP Cardiologist and EP Nurse Practitioner to develop and implement a treatment plan. Assists with workload entry, evaluations, treatment interventions, and re-evaluation with the EP Team. Assists with the preparation and testing of a variety of complex cardiac diagnostic procedures. Prepares and operates specialized cardiac monitoring equipment. Provide patient and family education within scope of practice. Other duties as assigned. Cardiac Catheterization/EP Laboratory: Monitors the patient's vital signs and records pressure measurements needed to complete the study. Identify and appropriately reports EKG/rhythm abnormalities. Completes diagnostic studies ordered by, and in collaboration, with physician on all tours of duty with minimal or no direct supervision. Ability to scrub, circulate, and monitor advanced procedures (including electrophysiological) to include intravascular ultrasound, Angiojet, filter wires, permanent pacemaker insertions and AICD insertions; and other device implantations. Knowledge and understanding of waveforms from the great vessels and all chambers of the heart including the ability to recognize and distinguish normal from abnormal, artifact from abnormality, and forewarn the physician of an impending life-threatening situation. Sets up for procedures including MEDRAD power injector, Innova systems and MAC-Lab systems. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm.
