SUMMARY: Certified Surgical Technologist assists surgeons during operative and invasive procedures. Scrub Tech ensures the operating suite is adequately prepared for the procedures. The Surgical Technologist ensures all instruments are cleaned and sterilized and functioning properly. Maintains sterile field during surgical procedures. Adheres to accepted standards for the provision of safe patient care in the surgical environment. The Surgical Technologist assists the anesthesiologist when blocks are required for surgery. Participates in department staff meetings and performance improvement activities. Prepares setup and scrubs new technology procedures such as (TVAR) Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, (LVAD) Left Ventricular Assist Device, Impella Implantation, Ablation Devices, Transmyocardial Laser, Cardio Assist Devices, Endovascular cases, and other cases as determined by Cardiovascular surgeons. Must be able to troubleshoot and recognize life threatening events. Must be able to take call.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Must have an understanding of the Heart-Lung Machine and its function with the cardiovascular system in regard to cannulation of the patient.
Minimum Education: College, military or vocational training required.
Minimum Experience: 1 to 2 years of job-related experience is preferred.
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses: Certified Surgical Technology recognized by the Association of Surgical Technologists (A.S.T.), National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) for any new hire is required. BLS required.
