Description Your Role : The Registered Nurse on the now Covid Unit, formerly Cardiology Stepdown, applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Registered Nurse effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team. Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards. Department Summary : The COVID Unit at Vanderbilt is located on the 7 th Floor of Vanderbilt University Hospital, also known as 7 Medical Center East. Typically,7 East is a Cardiology Stepdown/VAD & Heart Transplant is a 36-bed unit for cardiac care including ventricular assist devices (VADs), heart transplants, total artificial hearts, pre- and post-coronary artery, bypass and valve surgeries, advanced heart failure, chest pain, and heart arrhythmias. who are high acuity or high risk and have conditions that other facilities are unable to treat. We look for nurses who are equally passionate about the high-tech devices and the patient-centered care. But, since December 2020, our unit has been dedicated to the care of the COVID patient. We see patients who may have other diagnoses, but who are COVID positive. Our nurses are successful because they have strong assessment and communication skills, rely on each for support, and adapt easily to new challenges. We orient new nurses to our unit by providing a seven-week unit specific orientation with dedicated preceptors.
