What you will do:
Perform intermittent treatments, aerosol therapy, medical gas administration, aerosolized drug administration, mechanical ventilation, airway management (including endotracheal intubation), blood gas procurement and analysis, hemodynamic, electrocardiograms, and basic life support.
Assist physicians with special procedures.
Prior to the delivery of care, assist in evaluating patients for appropriateness of therapy based on their clinical condition and age.
Apply sound clinical judgment in interpreting patients' reactions to all forms of respiratory care and medications
Assist in developing appropriate treatment plans.
Apply broad expertise to suggest appropriate forms of therapy, perform and evaluate the efficacy of therapy.
Document all therapy administered in patients' charts.
Assist in the reprocessing, maintenance and minor repair of respiratory care equipment.
Consult with and advise physicians as to the most appropriate forms of respiratory care.
Demonstrate respiratory care techniques and procedures to students, medical staff and allied health professionals.
Assume "Charge Therapist" responsibilities, which include prioritizing and assigning workload, ensuring workload is completed, and reporting to following shift.
What we expect:
Completion of AMA-approved respiratory therapy certification or registration program.
Certification or registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
State of Illinois respiratory care practitioner license.
At least 1 to 2 years of experience in both adult intensive care and special care nursery.
Current AHA Basic Life Support certification and ACLS certification.
Successful completion of Intubation Training Program.
Thorough knowledge of routine and critical care respiratory techniques and procedures.
Ability to operate, monitor and maintain departmental respiratory equipment (including intensive care).
Demonstrated proficiency in performing and interpreting hemodynamic monitoring (including arterial and Pulmonary Artery Catheter blood sampling, cardiac output and comprehensive hemodynamic and pulmonary profiles).
Demonstrated proficiency in endotracheal intubation.
Ability to perform arterial punctures and blood gas analysis, as well as basic life support.
