Provide support related to Pacemakers, Implantable Cardiodefibrillators (ICD) and Implantable Loop Recorders to CVA Clinic. Provide nursing directives to plan of care involving patients with implantable devices. Function as liaison between device patients and physician/clinical staff. Perform in-office device evaluations as well as overseeing interrogations remotely transmitted. Perform patient teaching related to implantable devices, to include perioperative period and ongoing, as need arises.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Conduct job duties in accordance with CVAâ��s policies and procedures.
2.Perform in-office Pacemaker, ICD and Implantable Loop Recorder interrogations, device testing, trouble-shooting and reprogramming, under Device Physician supervision.
3.Review all ICD Remote Interrogation data, reporting significant finding to MD in a timely manner, contingent upon level of acuity. Contact patient to assess condition, when applicable. Provide directives to plan of action.
4.Review all Pacemaker Remote Interrogation data which contain Alert statuses, provide directives to plan of action, i.e. immediate MD notification, patient notification, etc.
5.Review all TTM & Pacemaker Remote Interrogations which are reported to be Elective Replacement Status. Obtain MD signature. Perform patient notification. Notify CVA Admissions department.
6.Perform wound assessment, dressing changes, steri-strip/staple removal as needed, during first post-operative visit, reporting any abnormalities to the physician, prior to discharging patient.
7.Perform telephone triage of patients calling about device-related issues, monitoring Heart Lab task basket throughout the day.
8. Perform telephone triage of patients calling to report they have been shocked by their ICD. Provide directives to plan of action contingent on level of acuity, implement directives.
9.Provide pre-operative patient teaching to â��initialâ�� implant patients who are being seen in the clinic as well as hospital in-patients.
10.Perform device-update in servicing, as needed, to CVA clinical staff.
11.Be available to answer device-related questions from CVA clinical staff as well as CVA MDâ��s.
12.Function as an initial responder to all emergency situations occurring within the clinic in order determine if patient has an implantable device which might require a device RN to help support.
13.Assist patients with remote transmissions , troubleshooting any issues they might be having with this technology.
14.Provide back-up to Pacemaker Technician, when needed, in performing trans-telephonic transmissions (TTMâ��s).
15.Attend device-related educational seminars, when made available, in order to receive updates regarding advancing technology.
16.Ensure quality assurance procedures performed on all life-support equipment within the department.
17.Administer medications under the supervision of a physician, according to manufacturerâ��s guidelines and established CVA policy and procedures. Also monitor patients for possible reactions or side effects and administer treatments as per physician order.
18.Assist with Pacemaker Clinics in CVA outreach offices, whenever necessary. Be proficient with arranging patient schedules involving these clinics.
19.Maintain patient confidentiality.
20.Be proficient with use of electronic medicals records, IDX & Paceart systems, as well as scanning & tasking documents into EMR.
21.Perform other work-related duties as directed. The job duties and responsibilities of the Pacemaker RN include, but are not limited to the previously described areas of duty and responsibility.
22.Adhere to compliance policies and procedures. Report any incident that appears unusual or deficient to department supervisor/manager or compliance department.
Registered nurse with current Alabama license.
Two years pacemaker experience preferred.
The following experience needed or should be completed within one year of employeeâ��s hire date:
* BCLS certification
* ACLS certification
* Demonstrate proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and database software; good organizational skills.
Varied activities including standing, sitting, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, and reaching.Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.Must be able to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately.Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.Ability to push or pull mobile equipment on casters up to 500 pounds, including but not limited to ultrasound equipment, nuclear equipment, patient stretchers and beds, stress equipment and emergency â��crash cartâ��. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including phone, writing instruments, PC, fax, and medical equipment including stethoscope, scales, and blood pressure cuff, etc.Requires working under stressful conditions, working with tense patients, or working irregular hours.
